Why is
Immunization important?
- Because it
will protect your child against diseases that can hurt,
cripple or kill!
- Here is some
important information:
What Parents Should Know
-
Polio would paralyze 10,000
children.
-
Rubella (German measles) would
cause birth defects and mental retardation in as many as
20,000 newborns.
-
Measles would infect about 4
million children, killing 3,000.
-
Diphtheria would be one of the
most common causes of death in school-aged children.
-
A bacterium called Haemophilus
influenzae type b (Hib) would cause meningitis in
15,000 children, leaving many with permanent brain
damage.
-
Pertussis (whooping cough) would
kill 8,000 children, most of whom were under the age of
one.

One of the most important things you can do to protect your
child's health is to see that she/he receives all of the
recommended immunizations--and that she/he receives them on
time. Vaccines have been proven to be one of the most
effective tools ever created to help people live longer and
have healthier lives. They work by preventing infectious
diseases, some of which have the potential to cause
long-lasting or permanent health problems, or even death.
